Most of you already know the 17 Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs). Also referred to as the Global Goals, they have been playing an essential role in aligning individuals and organisations across the board and across the world on the collective vision and agenda towards a more sustainable society and environment, since the United Nations designed the framework back in 2015.
As you will (re)discover below, the SDGs present a series of 17 'rules' towards greater social and environmental responsibility, which we are urged to follow individually and collectively in order to make sustainability a reality. However, the SDGs do not make the task simple: while they are imperative, they are hardly practicable and actionable. How am I supposed to contribute to reaching ‘Zero Poverty', ‘Zero Hunger', or ‘Clean Water and Sanitation', you might ask yourself?
This is where the two complementary frameworks of the 17 Sustainable Development Fields (SDFs) and the 17 Sustainable Development Enablers (SDEs) come in: to give you more clarity about what can be your specific individual role to play - professionally or personally - on the sustainability chessboard.
This page allows you to dive into the SDGs, SDFs and SDEs, select the ones you relate the most to, and from there identify your Personal Key Combination (PKC), i.e. your unique set of SDGs, SDEs and SDFs that define the causes that most matter to you (SDGs; your why), the sectors that most excite you (SDFs; your where), and the levers of change that best correspond to your own skills and talents (SDEs; your how). In the field of sustainability indeed, it is important for all of us to realise that we need to focus where we are most relevant and efficient individually: we alone cannot and should not contribute to everything. The sustainability agenda will be reached through collective complementary actions, local and global collaboration, and teamwork. Becoming aware of your PKC is powerful to understand what to focus your energy on, where to further develop your skills, and how to take your career forward in a very personalised manner.
Legacy to the Millennium Goals and brought to the world by the United Nations in 2015, the 17 Sustainable Development Gaols (SDGs) is a very powerful set of objectives synchronising the world on our collective Sustainability Agenda by 2030. (Re)discover them just below: they together define the scope of sustainability, inclusive of both social and environmental considerations. While the framework is incredible insightful and powerful in its vision, one may also struggle to convert these guidelines into actionable steps. Explore the SDGs, select at least one and at most 3 of them that matter the most to you, and move on to the Sustainable Development Fields!
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum
The Sustainable Development Fields is a list of sectors in which one can position themselves especially for their career. Although our world works as an ecosystem of interconnected and interdependent activities, becoming aware of these sectoral distinctions will allow you to break down complex problems that each industry is facing. And interestingly, you will realise that each and every field of activity is far away from being as socially inclusive and environmentally responsible as it could be! No matter the sector(s) you choose to work in, there will always be room for sectoral practices to improve towards greater sustainability. Select the one(s) that interest you the most and continue your journey towards determining your PKC!
The Sustainable Development Enablers give you insights on all the levers of change – the how’s – that can allow us to activate and accelerate change towards sustainability. It is important for each of us to be aware of our own strengths and skills, and consciously use them to create meaningful change at our local level. Deeper individual focus and skill complementarity is what will eventually allow us to collaborate effectively. You’re almost there! Select the SDEs that you relate the most to in order to unveil your full PKC!
If you have thoroughly gone through the process, you are now aware of your very own and unique Personal Key Combination (PKC), i.e. the combination of SDGs, SDFs, and SDEs that you most relate to, which truly tells you how you can uniquely contribute to the global sustainability agenda. Being aware of your PKC is powerful for the continuation of your personal and professional journey towards sustainability: it is an indication about what to research next, which experts and organisations for you to reach out to now that you know where to focus on, and whether you are professionally at the right place. It is an invitation for you to check if you are on the right track towards meaningfulness: are you on the very journey that should be your own, and only yours?
Make sure you selected at least one and up to 3 of each SDGs, SDFs and SDEs, drop your email below, and we will send you your PKC! No pressure: your PKC can change overtime, and you can go back to this page anytime to see whether your positioning has evolved or stayed consistent.
Congratulations for finding your place on the sustainability chessboard and see you soon!
