Jan 29, 2022 / Community Meet-up
The new year brought along with it new opportunities, new networks, new collaborators and stronger connections. A true testament to that was the Y-east Mixer January 2022 edition. While the session was a virtual one, the participants and members were brimming with energy equivalent to that of a physical one. The session celebrated impact-oriented education and access to learning opportunities for everyone without discrimination.
This meet up has always proven to benefit individuals, and organisations alike working towards making the world a better place. Kunal Mandal from Gyaan space spoke to us about Fast Fashion and its perils on the planet. Through a quiz, he presented hard-hitting facts and insightful knowledge urging us to act immediately. The meet up also witnessed unique initiatives and heartening stories being told. LP4Y announced its book donation program. They are looking for generous souls to donate books for young women of 18 to 25 years of age under their organisation to help improve their proficiency in English, Bengali, Hindi, general knowledge, business literacy, skills and to inspire them with motivational content. Similarly, the Advaita Bodhi Foundation introduced the concept of digital literacy and the need to bridge the urban-rural divide using digital devices; by urging people to donate such devices for the rural population.
Among many others, Prabir spoke to us about his innovative isolation room that can reduce the load of hospitals. The idea of supporting girl power at the book fair was raised by Saba Islam spoke to us about a distinct initiative on Crafts and the Olympics.
There were two exciting and enjoyable workshops as part of this mixer.
Workshop 1: Zine Making by The Makers Collaborative
The Zine making workshop was met with enthusiastic participants who gathered with sheets of paper and scraps to create meaningful stories of hope and change. Megha from Makers Collaborative guided the participants through the process of making zines and provided prompts for the participants too. The end result was a beautiful zine-filled collection of narratives and art.
Workshop 2: Shumpun Foundation – Raising Awareness towards Diversity and Inclusion
The Shumpun foundation hosted an interactive and informative session around the idea of inclusivity and diversity and how it is a huge part of sustainability. By highlighting stories of diversity, and autism the session was insightful to say the least. The session urged all of us to embrace and treat all individuals as equal and meet them where they are and not vice versa. The session was wholesome and left us wanting to engage more!
