On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2021, Y-East and TurnItGreen, in association with academic partner Techno India Group, launched “The Sustain-ABLE Guide – Your step-by-step journey towards a conscious lifestyle!”. The e-guide takes the readers on a 12-step journey in their daily lives and shows how one can take simple and easy actions at their own pace to make their every day more sustainable. The Guide also features more than 100 organisations working in the sustainability space – such as WWF, WICCI, Kolkata Zero Waste Bazaar, The River Rangers, Bengal-CAN, Climate Interactive, Ashoka, Youth for Sustainability India Alliance, #LearningPlanet, Clan Earth, Twirl, Ubuntu Community, I Live Simply, The Climate Reality Project and many more – so that readers can directly connect and engage with them to take further action. More than 300 people across the world attended the launch event, which was enlightened by the expert insights of Special Guests Debashis Sen, Chairman and Managing director of HIDCO; Prof Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Co-Chairman of Techno India Group; and Bibi Russel, founder of Bibi Productions, internationally renowned fashion designer and former international model. Other eminent speakers such as Sailesh Rao, Founder and Executive Director, Climate Healers; Sushil Reddy, Guinness World record on an ebike, The SunPedal Ride; Vani Murthy, Founder and Member, Solid Waste Management Round Table; Alakshi Tomar, Co-founder, TruCup and Nirit Datta, Wildlife Conservationist, Environmental Extremist, Conservation Speaker also joined the conversation and shared their impactful stories.
The event started with an energetic introduction by TurnItGreen’s founder Prabal Basu followed by a live demo of the Sustain-ABLE Guide by Y-East’s founder Pauline Laravoire. Special Guest Mr. Debashis Sen then shared his vision of the sustainable city – Newtown and how smart planning and execution transformed Rajarhat into an eco-friendly smart city. Right after, Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury highlighted the importance of including sustainable development within school curricula. Finally, Bibi Russel shared her insightful journey of how sustainability is already deeply rooted in her culture, how she has valued the importance of nature and not wasting any resources since childhood, and how she believes that learning starts from home.The session then featured a beautiful performance titled “Ekonama” (2016) by Sapphire Creations Dance Academy, which highlighted climate and environmental challenges through dance. Later on, Guinness World Record holder Sushil Reddy shared the useful ‘AMG’ rule of energy consumption: Avoid – Minimise – Generate.
