Industry-Academia Meet on Waste Management & Social Entrepreneurship

Techno India University (TIU), West Bengal and Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) of MHRD along with Y-East and TIU E-Cell successfully organized a 2-day Industry-Academia National Meet cum Exhibition on Waste Management and Social Entrepreneurship on 21st and 22nd January.

Close to 400 students, faculty and other visitors got to interact with more than 25 expert speakers, and 20 impactful organisations present at their respective stalls to share their experience and opportunities. The event had 3 main objectives: raising awareness among students regarding professional sustainable development practices, providing a concrete networking platform for them to discover impactful career paths and interact with industry, and last but not the least announcing the launch of an MBA on Waste Management and Social Entrepreneurship at TIU by the end of the year.

This Meet was the perfect platform to set up key green initiatives on Techno India Main Campus in Salt Lake, Kolkata. On the first day of the event, the institution inaugurated an E-Waste collection point in partnership with Hulladek to enable students and staff to ethically dispose their obsolete or damaged electronic materials. On the following day, just after students from Techno India Group Public School Garia presented their ‘Waste to Wealth’ efforts towards better waste management on their own campus in Garia, Techno India main campus in Salt Lake also opened a collection point for old and damaged fabric (typically clothes) which will be upcyled into brand new accessories, in partnership with Twirl. Way to go!
