Techno India Group Public Schools and Y-East have tied up with the Climate Reality Project to conduct a series of Teachers Training Workshops on Climate Change and Sustainable Development.
The Teachers Training workshops aimed to train the trainers of the youth. The program helped build capacity inside schools on climate education. The program is designed to give teachers confidence in facilitating climate change and sustainability education inside and outside the classroom so that they can help young people understand the causes and consequences of climate change, bring about changes in attitudes and behaviours to reduce the severity of future climate change, and build resilience in the face of climate change that is already present.
Three2.5-hour workshops were conducted virtually for all 300+ teachers of Techno India Group Public Schools, on 30th January and 6th of February 2021. Dr Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Co-Chairman, Techno India Group; Pauline Laravoire, Sustainability Director, Techno India Group and Co-founder, Y-East; Aditya Pundir, Director South Asia, The Climate Reality Project; Rekha Lalla, Program Manager, The Climate Reality Project India; Sheetal Antil, Program Manager, The Climate Reality Project India and Priyank Patel, Business Development Director, Livolt India all addressed the teachers, urging them and providing them with the tools to tweak their school’ curriculum and campus behaviours towards social and environmental responsibility. “You are a significant part of the solution”, said Pauline to the teachers.
The workshop began with an introductory note by Dr Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury and Pauline Laravoire. A presentation on Climate Change (Science, Impacts and Solutions) by Aditya Pundir followed. This session gave participants the basics of science, impacts and solutions of climate change, followed by a Q&A session and open forum with the participants. A 20-minute presentation was then given on Sustainable Development Goals for 21st Century Challenges by Rekha Lalla, who provided an overview of UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals, to specify the interconnectedness and interdependence between 21st-century challenges. This was followed by a 30-minute session on Teaching Climate Change and SDG and Green School Practices by Sheetal Antil. This session highlighted the various resources available to take a message back to the classroom, tools like online courses to learn the subjects in detail and changes that can be incorporated at the school level. The workshop was concluded by a note from Priyank Patel, who also provided takeaways from the profound positive changes towards Sustainable Development made at Garia School a few months back, which he helps implement.
